The Land Rover Range Rover is the flagship SUV offered by Land Rover and one of the most luxurious and expensive SUVs sold in the world. With a rich legacy of excellence in luxury and off-roading prowess, the Land Rover Range Rover is currently in its fifth-generation version and is sold in standard and long-wheelbase versions across four trim levels – SE, HSE, Autobiography and SV. Interior

The cabin of the Land Rover Range Rover can be specced in one among the several top-class leather upholstery and trim combinations, all of which exude high-order quality and fit and finish levels. In this sixth-generation version, the Range Rover has a modern, sleek and minimalist interior, which comes laden with many new-age features and technologies on board.

The new sixth-generation Land Rover Range Rover has an all-new four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, behind which sits a cutting-edge full-TFT instrument console which offers multiple display modes, all of which have cool-looking layouts and graphics. The centre console is dominated by a huge 13.1-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen infotainment system, which is a window to all the audio, control, powertrain tune and suspension setup settings.

The lower centre console, which houses the compact transmission lever and various switches for ibn-car functions, looks classy with its floating design. Loaded with a long list of features, the Land Rover Range Rover gets illuminated aluminium treadplates, four-zone automatic climate control, 24-way powered, heated and ventilated front seats with massage functions, executive class comfort plus rear seats, SV semi-aniline leather seats with SV bespoke leather headlining, SV exclusive veneer, gloss white ceramic controls, head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charger and premium Meridian sound system in the top-line SV variant.

Exterior

The Range Rovers have always had a majestic aura in their appearance on their outside, backed by large dimensions, upright and heightened stance, and traditional boxy appeal. The new fifth-generation version of the Land Rover Range Rover follows the tradition, and in the process, has become much sleeker and elegant than ever before.

The front fascia of the Land Rover Range Rover is dominated by a trapezoidal front grille, which has a premium chrome treatment for its surrounds and inserts. The grille on the SE, HSE, and Autobiography is the same, with the inserts having segmented rectangular inserts, while the SV variant has horizontal slats.

The SV variant also has exclusive SV metal-plated accents and a white ceramic exterior badge with a black SV roundel. The higher-spec variants of the Range Rover have digital LED headlights with signature LED DRLs and image projection, while the lower variants get pixel LED headlamps with signature LED DRLs and animated directional indicators. Even the front bumper of the SV variant looks different with horizontal slats than the one offered in other variants.

The side profile of the Land Rover Range Rover boasts of an upright stance and long wheelbase, which makes the SUV look authoritative. While the lower variants have 21-inch silver alloy wheels, the higher Autobiography and SV variants have individualistic 22-inch machined alloy wheels. The Range Rover now gets blacked-out and seamless design for the pillars, flush-type door handles, and vertical garnish design on the front doors as standard in all the variants.

The rear profile of the Land Rover Range Rover is the angle at which the fifth-generation model witnessed the most significant visual change. The SUV now gets slim, vertically-aligned, blacked-out panels on the corners of the boot lid, which come integrated with LED tail lamps. The upper edges of the tail lamps are also connected by a blacked-out strip that accommodates dynamic LED turn indicators.

Ride & Handling

Being one of the most expensive SUVs sold in the world, the Land Rover Range Rover comes equipped with all-wheel-drive as standard and is offered with various systems like all-wheel steering, electronic air suspension with dynamic response, electronic active differential with torque vectoring by braking and configurable programs. The terrain response management offered in the new Range Rover includes drive modes like dynamic, eco, comfort, grass/gravel/snow, mud and ruts, sand and rock crawl.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

Land Rover is offering a plethora of mild-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid engine options for the new sixth-generation Range Rover. The petrol engines available across the Range Rover lineup are 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-petrol (offered in two states of tune – 360 PS and 500 Nm and 400 PS and 550 Nm) and 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol (offered in two states of tune – 530 PS and 750 Nm and 624 PS and 750 Nm). The 3.0-litre inline-six diesel engine is available in three states of tune – 249 PS and 600 Nm, 300 PS and 650 Nm and 350 PS and 700 Nm. All these engine options have mild-hybrid technology.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain on offer for the new Land Rover Range Rover includes a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 38.2kWh battery. This powertrain is offered in three states of tune – 440 PS and 620 Nm, 459 PS and 550 Nm, 510 PS and 700 Nm. The transmission common to all the powertrain choices is an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Braking & Safety

The Land Rover Range Rover has an extensively long list of safety features, some of which are adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, emergency braking, lane keep assist, driver condition monitor, 360-degree parking camera, park assist with parallel parking, front and rear parking aid, ABS with EBD, eight airbags, traction control, brake assist, electronic stability program, hill assist control, hill descent control and lane watch camera.

Verdict
